Although the man is smiling and has bright eyes, the message written across his helmet reveals the true nature of his heart. The fact that the photo is in black and white adds to the idea that war drains you; it absorbs your colors and replaces them with dull grays and browns. Overall I like the genuine emotion in the picture because it's just that- real.
